Government to move ‘pre-1992 State pensioners’ to GEMS

National Treasury has decided to migrate a group of State pensioners who retired before 1992 to the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) with effect from 1 April 2012.

  • Emergency number: 082 911

    All Medihelp members have access to Netcare 911’s 24-hour emergency services. Netcare 911’s medical professionals will be able to assist you in any medical emergency, by assessing the emergency and advising you on what to do and whether or not an ambulance is needed.

     

  • Ambulance services: 082 911

    If you need an ambulance, please phone Netcare 911 on 082 911. The Netcare 911 consultant will assist you immediately and authorise the ambulance services.

     

  • Visits to an emergency room

    Not all visits to an emergency unit qualify for benefits for emergency services. It is only when the patient’s condition necessitates his/her admission to hospital that the preceding visit to the emergency room is considered for emergency services benefits. If the patient is not admitted to hospital, the visit to the emergency room qualifies for normal consultation benefits.
