Government to move ‘pre-1992 State pensioners’ to GEMS

National Treasury has decided to migrate a group of State pensioners who retired before 1992 to the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) with effect from 1 April 2012.

When you are hospitalised, you should only have to worry about getting better – Medihelp will take care of the rest.

Upon discharge

 

Medicine to take home

When you are discharged, your doctor may prescribe medicine for you to take home. These medicines are referred to as TTOs (to take out). Read more. 

 

 

Private nursing or subacute care facilities

After you are discharged from hospital, you may need to be admitted to a subacute care facility or require private nursing. In some cases, where the patient is terminally ill, he/she may be admitted to a hospice care facility.
