Government to move ‘pre-1992 State pensioners’ to GEMS

National Treasury has decided to migrate a group of State pensioners who retired before 1992 to the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) with effect from 1 April 2012.

The 25 chronic conditions which qualify for PMB are the following:

4.  Bronchiectasis    
5.  Cardiac failure   
6.  Cardiomyopathy  
7.  Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)  
8.  Chronic renal disease  
9.  Coronary artery disease  
10.  Crohn's disease  
11.  Diabetes insipidus  
12.  Diabetes mellitus type I and type II  
13.  Dysrhythmia  
14.  Epilepsy  
15.  Glaucoma  
16.  Haemophilia A and B  
17.  Hyperlipidaemia  
18.  Hypertension  
19.  Hypothyroidism  
20.  Multiple sclerosis  
21.  Parkinson's disease  
22.  Rheumatoid arthritis  
23.  Schizophrenia  
24.  Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
