The South African War, also known as the Anglo-Boer War, raged from 1899 to 1902, shaping the country’s political and social landscape. In 1905, the Cullinan Diamond, the largest gem-quality diamond ever discovered, was unearthed. The country also began to experience significant industrial and infrastructure growth, with mining expansions playing a pivotal role in shaping its economy.

Medihelp history

On 9 February 1905, the Civil Service Medical Benefit Association (CSMBA), later known as Medihelp, was founded in Pretoria with 362 members. This marked the start of a new era in medical aid in South Africa. Mr EFE Wright served as the first Secretary. On 9 August 1906, Mr HH Carey was appointed as the second Secretary, ensuring the continued growth of the organisation.
