South African history

In 1934, the Status of the Union Act declared South Africa a sovereign, independent state. On 10 October 1930, the Transvaal University College became the University of Pretoria with 1 074 students.

Medihelp history

In 1931, Mr JA Butcher became the first full-time Secretary of Medihelp. That same year, discussions around national health insurance began, with a letter from Francis Napier, president of the Medical Association of South Africa (MASA), published in the South African Medical Journal.
