HIV/Aids
Does Medihelp offer benefits for HIV testing?
Yes. Medihelp offers benefits for voluntary HIV/Aids counselling and testing as part of your added insured benefits. To use this benefit, visit your nearest Clicks, Dis-Chem or other Medihelp network pharmacy clinic. Members of our MedMove! and MedElect options can get these services from their network GP.
How does HIV testing work?
A rapid test – similar to cholesterol and blood sugar testing – is done and the results are discussed with the individual. If you are HIV positive, you will receive counselling by a healthcare professional.
What happens if I test positive for HIV?
Medihelp members who are HIV positive must register for our HIV/Aids programme offered in partnership with our preferred provider, LifeSense. All information is treated with the utmost confidentiality.
How do I register for the programme?
Phone LifeSense on 086 050 6080 to start post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) immediately. You must start within 72 hours from exposure. Visit your nearest doctor to assist you with the PEP treatment.
What should I do if I am accidentally exposed to HIV?
