Does Medihelp offer benefits for HIV testing?

Yes: Medihelp offers benefits for voluntary HIV/Aids counselling and testing as part of your added insured benefits. To use this benefit, visit your nearest Clicks or Dis-Chem pharmacy clinic. Members on our Necesse Network option can visit a Necesse network GP.

How does HIV testing work?

A rapid test – similar to cholesterol and blood sugar testing – will be done and results discussed. If you are HIV positive, you will receive counselling by a medical professional.

What happens if I test positive for HIV?

Medihelp members who are HIV positive must register for our HIV/Aids programme in partnership with our preferred provider, LifeSense. All information is treated with the utmost confidentiality.

How do I enroll on the programme?

Contact LifeSense at 0860 5060 80 or send an SMS to 31271 for a call-back to register on this programme. You can contact our designated service providers for HIV/Aids medicine, Dis-Chem Direct (011 589 2788) and Medipost (012 426 4000) to arrange for your medication.

What should I do if I am accidentally exposed to HIV?

Phone LifeSense on 086 050 6080 to start post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) immediately. NB: You must start within 72 hours from exposure. Visit your nearest doctor to assist you with the PEP treatment.
