MEDIHELP EMPLOYEES WITH A HEART FOR THEIR COMMUNITY
PRETORIA - To assist the Odirile Home for persons with severe physical and intellectual disabilities in dealing with the ongoing water supply crisis in Hammanskraal, Medihelp, in collaboration with Eco Tanks, provided two 5 000 litre water storage tanks to Odirile so its residents could have access to clean drinking water.
Medihelp’s employees visited the Odirile Home on 9 September 2022 to help the centre’s staff with chores such as washing dishes, and spent time interacting with the residents to brighten up their day. In addition to providing the water tanks, Medihelp also sponsored a playground provided by the proudly South African company PMN Playground Specialists, to offer stimulation for child residents that are either wheelchair-bound or otherwise incapacitated. Medihelp also donated much-needed groceries and items such as clothes, a kettle, a printer, toiletries, adult diapers, and sanitary products to the organisation.
Ms Judith Ngcongwane from the Odirile Centre expressed her sincere thanks to Medihelp for its assistance. “We hope that you continue doing the good work you are doing. These donations help us a lot”, she said.
Medihelp employees also helped the non-profit organisation Kungwini Welfare Organisation (KWO) in Pretoria East with its Nickel Christmas Market project, by sponsoring 60 new trolleys and 120 shopping baskets for shoppers who want to support the market. The Nickel Christmas Market is KWO’s biggest fundraising project and a major job creation event for many independent local small business entrepreneurs, and has been running for more than 20 years. It also serves as a platform for showcasing the beautiful products made by disabled residents of the Paul Jungnickel Home at KWO’s Protective workshop.
On 16 September, Medihelp’s employees donated handmade care packs, made by the Selwyn Gift Centre in Johannesburg, and essential groceries to KWO. They also created decorations for the Nickel Christmas Market. The Nickel Christmas Market will be held from 23 November to 4 December 2022 from 09:00 to 17:00 daily.
