Update regarding NHI and its challenges

Whilst this is an important step towards implementation, there is still a complex process – that may take years – that will follow before it is enacted.

As widely reported, the Bill in its current format falls short of the extensive recommendations that the private health sector made, and lacks important detail about, amongst others, funding and resources.

As a firm believer in and contributor to quality healthcare for the past 118 years, Medihelp believes in the development of a sustainable system that will provide more South Africans with access to quality care. The Bill in its current format will not suffice.

Medihelp will not waiver in our commitment and endeavours to safeguard the integrity of care provided and to ensure that members’ rights and the future of the Scheme are protected. As we have always been quick at adopting sustainability strategies, we have also formed an internal task team to consider and start working on solutions in the interest of members.
